Is it just me, or are those individual throttle bodies incredibly sexy?!

This is just a table that I threw together. I used a car performance program and "tested" each engine in my Corolla GT-S. The tires, wheels, transmission ratios, and suspension specs are all the same. Here's what came out:

Hp Torque (lb-ft) 0-60 (s) 1/4-mile Top Speed (mph/kph)
My AE92 GT-S 120@6600 108@4800 8.0 16.4@86.5 128/206
20-valve 4A-GE 170@6600 128@4800 6.4 15.1@93.3 142/229
Formula Atlantic 240@8500 136@7600 7.2 15.2@102.2 157/253
Japan-spec 4A-GZE 170@6400 152@4400 6.7 17.9@94.9 137/221
Modded 4A-GZE 200@6400 185@4400 6.1 14.2@100.6 137/221

I've got to admit, there ARE other great Toyota engines that make much more power like the 3S-GTE, 7M-GTE, 4A-GZE or 2JZ-GTE (1991-present Supra Turbo). But, I'm very fond of the 4A-GE because of its light weight and the hidden potential power. Who knows, maybe I'll gather up more info and specs on other Toyota engines and dedicate some pages to them! Until then...

If you think that getting 165 hp out of a 1.6L motor isn't enough, check this out... There's a highly-tuned, normally-aspirated 4A-GE variant used in the Toyota Formula Atlantic Series. The displacement is still at 1.6L, but they fitted it with a fuel-injection/ignition system by TRD. In full-race trim, you can expect to get 240 beat-you-till-you're-senseless horsepower! At home in a 1,260 lb. race car, 0-60 passes by in 2.8 seconds! Quick calculations show that this monster of a motor develops 150 hp per liter. To put it into perspective, if the 5.7L Corvette engine was tuned to the same level of the 4A-GE race motor, it would make around 855 hp! And the F/A motor doesn't even have steel cylinder inserts! Umm, Hondacura motors don't seem to be as robust as Toyota's now, do they?!

Formula Atlantic 4A-GE

Drive Belt Side
This is the newest version of the F/A 4A-GE motor that's used in the 1999 Toyota Formula Atlantic Series. Notice the individual throttle bodies and oil scavenger/pump.

Intake Side
Here, you get a better view of the dry sump and the oil scavenger pump. Check out how big those throttle bodies are!

Exhaust 1/4 Side
Heh, and I thought my oil filter was hard to access! The upside is the absolutely gorgeous, polished exhaust manifold for the show motor.
