In my quest to take advantage of ALL of the mods allowed in the SCCA Street Prepared rules, I got myself a KBD header. I believe these are the only readily available headers for the AE92 GT-S in the U.S. Sure, I could go to Japan and order a nice HKS header, but it costs nearly three times as much PLUS, I'd have to wait a few months. No thanks.
Coupled w/ an efficient intake, the KBD header frees up another 8-10 hp depending on the particular engine and its condition. What's even better is that the power is spread across the board and it doesn't make the engine more peaky than it already is. Although not entirely accurate (but close!!!), my "butt-dyno" registers a decent amount of torque increase starting at just 2000 rpm. Before I installed the header, I cruised along in 3rd gear at 2500 rpm and floored it. I did the same after the installation and the engine pulled noticeably harder. Past 5000 rpm, it pulls harder and faster to redline than before. I plan on doing a dyno run to see how much of an improvement there is compared to the published figures on a stock '88 GT-S.
Lastly, thanks go to Chris and Graham at CAP for scaring KBD enough to actually ship the header out in record time! =) People have emailed me telling me that they had to wait 2-3 months for theirs! Doh!

You can see the nice mandrel bends used to make this high quality header.

KBD paired the 1-3 and 2-4 cylinders to take advantage of the firing order.

I had a little trouble getting the header flange to line up perfectly w/ the bolts holes and studs
on the head. Everything fit nicely except for the right-most bolt near the # 4 cylinder. I'll need
to use a Dremel tool to "open up" the hole.

You can see the pre-cat pipe on the upper-left corner of the pic. I had to get 8x1.25mm bolts f/
my local hardware store to mount the O2 sensor. One of these days, I'll need to cut the O2 sensor
mounting neck and weld it together. Right now, the O2 sensor's "nose" isn't really exposed to the
exhaust gas stream--it's hidden in the neck. The A/F readings may be a little off.
