Starter Circuit Troubleshooting

Let's face it. A starter that just goes click click click when you turn the key is downright aggravating. I've dealt with this problem on my car for a long time. Some of my friends (not to mention my poor girlfriend) have also experienced the unfortunate problem when driving around with me. I replaced components in the starter circuit until the problem went away, so listen up.

    Check each step in order:
  1. Battery charge
  2. Battery terminals and immediate cables in good condition--no fraying
  3. Ground strap from tranny to left frame rail in good condition
  4. Any aftermarket alarm starter kill circuit/relay
  5. Ignition key cylinder
  6. Clutch start safety switch
  7. Starter relay; P/N 28300-16010 (Be forewarned that this relay costs $70+)
  8. Main power cable from positive terminal to starter; P/N 82122-12310 (~$30)
  9. Starter solenoid
  10. Starter
