American Le Mans Series at Laguna Seca 2000

These Porsche GT3-R's were fast! Unfortunately, their mufflers did nothing to muffle the exhaust blasts! These were the loudest, ear-splitting cars of the weekend. This shot was right after The Corkscrew. This Porsche is driven by Mike Fitzgerald. He managed to win 2 in separate classes on the same day later on in the season! As far as I know, that's first time that's ever happened...

The only Ferrari entry in the field; also after The Corkscrew. What's really unique about this car are the hand controls. By that, I mean the throttle, brakes, and gear shifter are all controlled at the steering wheel. I'll be bold enough to assume that its driver is a parapalegic and has no use of his/her legs. When the car was going through the paddock area back to its garage, I noticed that the driver was blipping the "throttle" by pulling a plate mounted behind the steering wheel (it covered the areas from 8-o'clock to 10-o'clock and 2-o'clock to 4-o'clock) towards him/her. Cool, huh?

Race cars climb the back hill and get to top speed (at least 160 mph) and slam on the brakes to enter The Corkscrew at around 50 mph. Sound like fun? Hell yeah... =)

Oops--the Ferrari carried a little too much speed into Turn 10 and slid off the track.

You can see Turn 1 (near the red Honda sign), Turn 2 (middle left), Turn 3 (above the Firestone Bridge), and Turn 4 (bottom). I love this track...

The crew of this Diablo GT-R was nice enough to let me into their paddock area to get this shot.
