American Le Mans Series at Laguna Seca 2000

The #1 Panoz coming in for a penalty stop-and-go. I believe the driver gave a light kiss to a slower car that wouldn't give him space to pass. Car #1 led for a majority of the race, but slowed down and eventually quit because of a bad engine. It was up to the #2 car, but it slid off the track and crashed, thus ending all of Panoz's hopes for a win at Monterey. =(

One of the Caddys at a routine pit stop. Check out the smoke coming f/ the right front brake!

One of the Vipers comin' out of pit lane.

The #1 Panoz starting to undergo an autopsy.

When they finally removed the top cowling, it looked like something in the right bank of cylinders was amiss. One of the mechanics was picking out small bits of metal from a velocity stack.

Remember when I told you about Turn 2 being exciting? This is why... One of the next generation M3s got clipped by another car under heavy braking. I'd hate to foot the repair bill--it lost its front end body work, the right front wheel, and miscellaneous suspension bits.

Victories, losses, crashes and all, the unspoken trust between the drivers and race workers keeps the sport as safe as possible...
