Vegas Getaway January '03

Left to right: Stephanie, JoAnn, me, and Leo.

A bunch of us needed a nice break from work, so we all decided to head to Vegas... Again! There's just too much fun stuff to do--yes, even outside of gambling.

We flew out of Oakland Airport on Thursday night and arrived in Vegas around midnight. There was a little fiasco with the rental car (or lack thereof!) at Thrifty even though I had made reservations a month in advance. But, we eventually nabbed a Dodge minivan from Alamo. We ended up driving around Vegas for a little bit, picked up some snacks and water, drove some more, then parked at the Rio's parking garage around 0300 to sleep in the minivan. I slept kind of lightly in case a security guard happened to come across us and kick us out. Thankfully, no one bugged us.

I got a chance to finally start using my new Nikon CoolPix 4500 digital camera and see what it could and couldn't do. I nabbed a 256 MB Viking memory card for a cheap price and loaded it up for the trip. Even at the camera's 1600 x 1200 resolution and "Fine" quality, I had 260 available shots. Ain't technology wonderful? =) I re-sized all of the following pics down to 1024 x 768. None of the pics have been digitally touched up or "worked on." Just click on the thumbnails to see the bigger pic. Enjoy...

The Bellagio's indoor garden and the blown-glass ceiling in the lobby.

Some pics of the Hoover Dam which is about 20 minutes away from The Strip.

More pics at the Hoover Dam.

Our suite had a freakin' see-through port where you could see who was in the shower. Here's Leo demonstrating. We ended up putting a plastic bag on the window to cover it up. Jo and Steph weren't feeling too exhibitionistic during the trip...

Taking a break in the Coca-Cola store which was next to the "M&M" store.
